Douglas and Albert

Last week I enjoyed a great photo shoot with Victoria and her family. It was more like a gentle walk with friends than a professional shoot with paying clients, so relaxed were they. We met at the quarry car park on Leckhampton Hill and spent the 60 minute shoot taking in the spectacular views, soaking up the scenery and taking some super cute snaps of their son, Douglas and their dog, Albert.

Archie and William

This 20 minute family photo shoot took place in Kemble, towards Cirencester. Mum and Dad wanted pictures of mainly the children, with a few family ones to include themselves. As always, the shoot was relaxed and informal, with the emphasis on having fun, which helps everyone to relax.

Paxwell and Wesley

Daylesford Farm is a great place for a family on location photo shoot. I’ve only been there a handful of times but the results never disappoint. I met Liew and her family there on Monday morning and we enjoyed a 40 minute session in the beautiful sunshine. The couple’s two boys, Paxwell and Wesley, were full of mischievous fun, running in and out of the trees, playing with sticks, blowing dandelion clocks and generally keeping the adults on their toes!

Daniel

This was another gift voucher booking, which had been purchased by the family. about six months ago. There is no expiry on my gift vouchers so clients can book in the shoot whenever it is convenient for them, some have been known to leave it for as long as two years!

I met Margaret and her family at their home near Tewkesbury. The brief was a selection of natural family photos with a focus on Daniel, her grandson. He was a lovely lad and seemed to enjoy having his photo taken. Towards the end of the shoot I suggested a few wheel barrow rides, which went down very well!

Batsford Arboretum

I was booked by Lexi and her family for a 60 minute session at Batsford Arboretum. It’s a glorious spot with plenty of fab places for photos. The brief was a mixture of formal family pictures and some more natural, candid ones of the children. Thomas in particular wasn’t shy about having his photo taken, while Amelia proved more of a challenge! The rain held off just long enough to get a great set of pictures for the family.

Sudeley Castle

I met Oliver and his parents at the gatehouse of Sudeley Castle, they had been staying there for the weekend. They booked me for a 40 minute session to capture some family photos with particular focus on Oliver. He wasn’t that keen on the idea of having his photo taken, choosing rather to hide behind his Mum in tears. A little gentle encouragement was enough to make him feel better though and soon enough he was leaping and bounding across the grass playing hide and seek and picking dandelion clocks.

When faced with a situation like that I find it best to keep things as fun and relaxed as possible to help put the child at ease. Positive interaction, a friendly smile and letting them see the pictures I’m taking on the back of the camera seems to help reduce any anxiety.

Rococo Gardens

I’m a frequent visitor to the Rococo Gardens in Painswick as I do many of their seasonal shoots. Today, however, I had been booked by a family who were celebrating their parent’s Golden Wedding anniversary. It had been my suggestion to do the shoot at the gardens, so beautiful are they.

The 60 minute shoot began with some formal family photos in the tulips, which are spectacular at this time of year. We then walked down through the gardens and stopped for some pictures in the wooded area before making our way over to the adventure playground for some more candid, natural shots. As with all my shoots, it was very informal and relaxed with a strong emphasis on fun. The children enjoyed playing on the swings and crossing the rope bridge. Here are some of the highlights.

Lacey

The lovely Lacey is a model in the making! I first met her two years ago when her Mum booked me for one of my popular mini park shoots. The pictures from that shoot can be viewed by clicking here. Fast forward two years and she was looking so grown up!

We met at St Andrew’s Church in Sevenhampton where her parents got married. The idea was to capture some natural shots of Lacey in her own little wedding dress as a nod to how special and meaningful the place is to the family.

Lacey needed no encouragement from me as she dazzled in front of the lens. Such a natural. The setting leant itself beautifully to the shoot as well.

The Bartholomew Family

Sarah contacted me recently as she wanted to book a family photo shoot to celebrate her Mum’s 70th birthday. The family had hired a house for the weekend and I arrived on the Saturday morning for a 60 minute session.

I take a very informal approach with all my photo shoots. After a few group photos I encouraged family members to get involved playing with the children. I much prefer these more candid types of shots as everyone is able to relax a little more and that sense of fun really comes across in the photos.

Minnie and Sophie

This is the second photo shoot I’ve done for Philippa and her family. To view the photos from their first photo shoot, which took place in Hatherley Park, please click here.

This time around we were on Selsley Common. It’s not an area I’ve photographed before but it’s a location I’ll be sure to return to! Despite the rather blustery conditions we ventured out onto the common. The grey clouds provided a magical light that really set off the colours in the long grass, which the girls loved crawling through trying to find the Gruffalo!! We then took shelter in among an old quarry.
